Meta offers two ways onto the WhatsApp Business Platform: connect directly to the Cloud API, or go through a Business Solution Provider. BSPs are vetted partners that onboard the business, host the connection, handle template submission and sometimes add their own inbox and automation tools.
BSP vs Cloud API. Direct Cloud API access is free from Meta apart from per-message fees and gives you control; a BSP adds services and may add a margin on Meta's fees or a platform charge. Many chatbot platforms, including Botcadence, let you use either: connect a new number on the Cloud API, or transfer a number from an existing BSP.
Transferring from a BSP. A number can be moved from one provider to another; the business initiates the migration from its Meta Business Portfolio, and templates and verification status are re-established on the new connection. Plan for a short window with reduced sending while limits rebuild.
Questions to ask a BSP. Do you mark up Meta's fees? Who owns the number and the templates if we leave? What inbox and automation are included, and can we bring our own AI agent? What are the support hours?
