Is Instagram DM automation allowed? The rules
Automation through Meta's official Instagram Messaging API is permitted, and that is the only way Botcadence connects. The rules the agent follows:
- 24-hour messaging window. After a person messages you, the agent and your team can reply for 24 hours. After that, Botcadence blocks free-form replies until the person writes again.
- No cold DMs. The agent only replies to people who message you or reply to your Story.
- Rate limits. Meta caps how many messages a business can send. The agent sends replies, not bulk DMs.
- A person can step in. Add a handoff step, and a teammate can take over any DM from the shared inbox.
The Botcadence agent does not reply to public post comments; it works in DMs and Story replies.
